Interviewer: We have another role here that we think would be more suited to you, have you considered going into marketing? We think you would be great for the role.

Laura: I do not think marketing is for me.

So this is where it all started, 18 year old me telling my future employer I just didn’t fancy the job as I didn’t think I wouldn’t be suited to marketing. In a few weeks time it will be 10 years ago that I decided to give marketing a go and it was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made.

When you are at school there is a huge focus on what you want to be and how you are going to get there. When I was at school they pushed you towards university and if you didn’t attend they lost interest in you. I was that person. I decided I didn’t want to go to university despite getting great results and I was therefore left to make my own way and I am so pleased they did. I began my career at a top 50 accountancy firm and later moved to a regional law firm in Chelmsford. Most recently I joined a great law firm as their Marketing Manager and the firm will be celebrating their 186 year anniversary this year. This role has developed significantly during the last three years and I am now managing the marketing for five separate companies ranging from financial services to a mediation service for the veterinary profession. I oversee all of the day-to-day marketing activity as well as leading the marketing strategy.

So why start blogging? Now that’s an easy one. I simply just LOVE marketing – yes it does sound a little over the top but how many other industries constantly develop with new trends, where no day is ever the same, you develop leading brands and organise spectacular events for your clients? Yep – I am struggling to think of one too!
